Lancashire Makers is run as a Community Interest Company by a group of local designers, artists and makers to showcase and sell their work and that of other creatives from the North West. The company is non profit making enabling participating makers to sell competitively, directly to their audience. Core members of the group steward the shop on a rota basis and help with the day to day running of the project with the five Directors having overall responsibility for leading the direction and development of the gallery shop

Originally set up by members of The Art & Craft Guild of Lancashire as a separate entity to serve the guild members, the gallery shop has always also featured non members as guests but commercial decisions have broadened its scope to be more inclusive while maintaining the selection criteria for quality and originality of work as well as a business like commitment to their art or craft.

The guild’s long established reputation in the North West goes back to the 1980s when it was first set up to give a helping hand to artists and designer-makers who wanted to earn a living from selling their artwork. The guild celebrated its silver anniversary in 2011 with the opening of its first gallery at Burscough Wharf. “We have loved having a permanent home for our artwork” says textile designer Joanne Eddon, a founder member of the guild and one of the team which led the drive for a gallery space. “Now we are very thrilled to be here in Churchtown. It has given us the opportunity to have a major re-launch and to show new audiences the wonderful work of our talented artists."

The gallery shop features a diverse range of inspiring arts and crafts including textiles, ceramics, glass, jewellery, fine art, photography, wood and soap.
